Therese's
paintings integrate a delicate balance of interpenetrating perceptions
and forms. She often uses tree limbs as a structural component
around which to capture the fleeting nuances of light, color,
season, and pattern. Abstracted shapes rest in a carefully observed
grid-work of rhythmic forms. Transparent glazes and washes reveal
patterns within patterns, including subtle geometries. These,
combined with a carefully observed naturalism, create an integral
multidimensional reality and a shimmering unity of effects.
All of Therese's work is feminine,
layered and sensual. There is a quietness to her pieces that
invites the viewer to pause and take in the subtle details that
would be lost at first glance. Her carefully chosen color palettes
enhance an emotional expansiveness and contemplation.
Her mosaics incorporate the
same qualities with the added dimension of including man-made
objects and natural materials. Rocks, gem stones, petrified wood,
glass, and all types of ceramics create a wondrous montage of
effects. The elemental and tactical qualities of the objects
add their own distinctive essence add to the mix. Various patterns
and cuts are arranged in such a way that one object often appears
to morph into another. Very three-dimensional, materials can
protrude and serve a functional purpose. Yet, the lines and craftsmanship
are highly refined, displaying the delicacy of a painting achieved
with a saw. The multidimensional effect of Therese's mosaics
is further enhanced with a surprising mixture of materials and
objects.
Therese was born in Minneapolis
and grew up in Florida. She began her art career at an early
age and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor
of Design in Art Education. She lived in the Connecticut River
Valley for a number of years painting the local landscape and
creating her popular mosaics. She also uses her art in public
settings as a means of vision making and community involvement.
Currently, she lives in Santa Fe enjoying the mixture of cultural
diversity, art and nature.
